Test Description
Identification of R. equi carrying the virulence plasmid gene vapA.
Note: Transtracheal wash sample is the recommended specimen for diagnosis of R. equi pneumonia. Fecal sample is acceptable for identification of mares that may be shedding virulent R. equi causing infection in foals.
Interferences: Wooden swabs can interfere with testing and plastic swabs are preferred.
