Used to evaluate for the presence of an insulinoma. Submission of a single serum sample where a blood glucose (ideal BG less than 50 mg/dL or 2.8 mmol/L) is assessed along side an insulin level.
Interferences: Marked hemolysis.
Note: Generally used to evaluate for the presence of an insulinoma. Concurrent blood glucose concentration should be below 60 mg/dl (3.3 mmol/L) when serum insulin levels are measured. Not to be used on patients receiving exogenous insulin without an appropriate withdrawal period.
