Urinalysis: The Importance of Sediment Analysis
In this webinar, Doctor Chien, a veterinary clinical pathologist, shared his enthusiasm for urinalysis and the critical role of urine sediment analysis in diagnosing urogenital disorders. He emphasized the importance of accurate sample collection and standardization to ensure reliable results, highlighting the need for proper techniques in microscopic examination. The session included audience participation, revealing that many veterinarians perform sediment examinations regularly, yet a significant number do not include urinalysis in pre-anesthetic testing. Doctor Chien discussed various methods for sediment examination, including wet prep and urine cytology, and the significance of identifying elements like red blood cells, leukocytes, and casts. He concluded by encouraging attendees to appreciate the details in microscopy and to continue learning about urine analysis.
