VMD, Diplomate ACVP (Clinical)
University of Pennsylvania, Kansas State University
Dr. Petersen is originally from Huntington Beach, CA, about 10 minutes from the main Antech laboratory in Fountain Valley. In fact, while growing up his mom would take him and hs younger brother to pick strawberries on the land where the lab sits; so this must be a story of destiny. Ever since veterinary school (University of Pennsylvania, 1999) Don has been interested in the diagnostic process and using all the clues in a case to sift through a list of potential suspects down to the true offender(s). He particularly finds it interesting to detect disease at a cellular, biochemical, and molecular level, and this is what eventually lured him from 8 years in private practice into diagnostic medicine. At Antech, he enjoys the diverse case load, connecting with veterinarians on cases, and having a large network of other pathologists and specialists to consult with on challenging cases or with samples we receive from unusual species. He has been working out of the Portland, OR lab since 2015 and live in West Linn with family and pets. When not working he enjoys surfing, exploring the coast, and golfing, ideally all three on the same trip.
