Tick Flicks – A “Not-So-Seasonal” Series: Episode 1: Understanding Diagnostic Options for Anaplasma

Jun 25, 2025
3:30 pm ET

In this 1-hour webinar, Drs. Holly Brown (DVM, PhD, DAVCP) and Michelle Evason (BSc, DVM, DACVIM, MRCVS) will summarize key aspects of tick-borne disease pathogen screening in dogs with a focus on Anaplasma spp. and available testing options. Holly and Michelle will provide resources for practical clinical management, review recent peer-reviewed literature, and discuss evidence- and expert-based guidelines for this increasingly common vector-borne disease (VBD) pathogen. Through this discussion, and using real-world cases, participants will learn about case management, prevention, how to address One Health concerns, and communicate with pet owners across the spectrum of care.

Attend this webinar to:

  1. Understand evidence- and expert-based guidelines for preventive care and Anaplasma spp. clinical management in dogs
  2. Review recent information on Anaplasma spp. risk (endemic, emerging)
  3. Apply resources for clinical management of Anaplasma spp. and communication tools across the spectrum of care

Holly Brown, DVM, PhD, DACVP, received her DVM from the University of Georgia and worked in private practice before returning to UGA for a residency and PhD in clinical pathology. Dr. Brown remained on as a faculty member where she served as a diagnostic clinical pathologist, instructor, and collaborative researcher.

Dr. Brown then joined VCA Metzger Animal Hospital’s general, referral, and emergency practice in State College, PA as an on-staff clinical pathologist. There she sees a wide variety of diagnostic submissions and enjoys playing an important role at the interface of diagnostic testing and patient care and providing continuing education on maximizing laboratory diagnostics.

Dr. Brown has always been passionate about and actively involved in delivery continuing education around maximizing laboratory testing, and she recently transitioned into her new role as Chief Veterinary Educator for Antech Diagnostics.

Michelle Evason, BSc, DVM, DACVIM (SAIM), MRCVS serves as Global Director, Veterinary Clinical Education for Antech Diagnostics (MARS). She has worked in general practice, academia, specialty clinical practice, and in the animal health industry. Michelle has published on numerous infectious diseases, antimicrobial stewardship, nutrition, spectrum of care, veterinary- and pet-owner education related topics. She keeps busy (and humble!) with two teenage daughters, one husband, multiple 4-legged creatures, and numerous imperfect projects in various stages of completion on her farm in PEI, Canada.

This program has been approved for 1 hour of continuing education credit in jurisdictions which recognize RACE approval. NOTE: If the program is approved for CE credit, you must watch the webinar LIVE to earn the CE credit.
