Lyme disease detection via Accuplex™ includes screening for antibodies to C6, a method indicated by the 2018 ACVIM consensus update on Lyme borreliosis in dogs and cats.1 This peptide is only expressed following natural infection or exposure, so a positive C6 result will not be reported from cross-reactivity with vaccinal antibodies.
While a positive Lyme C6 result indicates natural infection or exposure to Borrelia burgdorferi, the majority of dogs returning a positive result for any serological test will not develop clinical signs. To aid in the management of these cases, the downloadable Antech Lyme Algorithm can guide you through a thorough diagnostic workup, including an investigation into the presence or absence of proteinuria (as recommended by the ACVIM guidelines).
* Detects patient antibodies against the C6 peptide derived from the VlsE protein of Borrelia burgdorferi, the causative agent of Lyme disease. Like all C6 tests, a positive result indicates infection (past or present.) Most infected dogs show no or mild clinical signs, and do not develop the clinical syndrome of Lyme disease.

Improved detection of Ehrlichia spp.
Accuplex now tests for the presence of antibodies to three different Ehrlichia species: E. canis, E. ewingii, et E. chaffeensis. These pathogens can be transmitted by various tick species from different endemic regions.
Management of a positive Ehrlichia test result is not always straightforward. We offer recommendations in the Antech Accuplex Ehrlichia diagnostic algorithm.
Dependable Detection of Anaplasma Phagocytophilum
Early detection of A. phagocytophilum infection is important. Annual screening with Accuplex can indicate exposure to this harmful bacteria.
