Bio

Connie is a native Californian, and a member of the Class of 2008 at Western University of Health Sciences. Following graduation, she continued with a small animal internship at Southern California Veterinary Specialty Hospital. Connie then completed Clinical Pathology residency training at the University of California, Davis, earning board certification in 2014. Connie is a member of the AVMA, ASVCP and ACVP. She enjoys all aspects of clinical pathology, but is particularly fascinated by hematopoietic neoplasia. Connie has also maintained ties with her alma mater, as a lecturer in the third year DVM curriculum. Connie joined the ANTECH group in 2012. Living in California, she enjoys all variety of outdoor activities. She practices yoga, and resides in Studio City with her dog, cat and spouse.

Bio

Set received an undergraduate degree in biology at the University of Pennsylvania and his DVM at Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2013. He continued on at Cornell for residency training in anatomic pathology at the New York State Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory, where he developed interests in zoo and wildlife pathology and dermatopathology. He then joined the San Diego Zoo for two years as the Steel endowed pathology fellow, building familiarity with the diseases of avian, reptile, and exotic ruminant species, among others. He became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists in 2016. Set joined ANTECH Diagnostics in 2017 as a staff pathologist and is currently based in the Fountain Valley, CA lab. His professional interests include zoo-exotic animal pathology, dermatopathology, and hepatobiliary pathology. Set enjoys birding, backcountry camping, biking, and when time allows, loading his touring panniers with tinned sardines and camping equipment and cycling through distant lands.

Bio

Jay earned his veterinary degree from Iowa State University, graduating in 1981. He completed his pathology residency at the Animal Medical Center, was a recipient of the C.L. Davis Veterinary Pathology Award in 1983, and successfully passed board certification in 1985. Jay later earned his PhD degree from Iowa State University in 1991. In 1996, Jay joined ANTECH with an interest in oncological pathology and dermatopathology. When not at work, you can find Jay and his two sons competing in action pistol shooting matches throughout the Midwest.

Catherine E. Thorn

Catherine completed her DVM at Ontario Veterinary College in 1991, followed by five years of general small animal/emergency practice. She returned to OVC for residency training and DVSc studies, then accepted a Clinical Instructorship at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, earning board certification in 1999. Catherine is a member of ASVCP and ACVP. She has published numerous journal articles and book chapters, and given scientific talks at regional, national, and international meetings. Her interests include cytology and hematology. Catherine joined ANTECH in 1999, and resides outside of Smyrna, GA, with her spouse, son, cat, and dog. Outside of professional pursuits, Catherine has an interest in special education and is an active member of the International Dyslexia Association. In her free time, she enjoys tennis, ballet, target shooting, and figure skating

Ryan P. Traslavina

Bio

Ryan is a Long Island native and 2010 graduate of the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to veterinary school, Ryan studied the toxic Dinoflagellate Pfiesteria piscicida at UCONN’s Avery Point Marine Science Center. Ryan attended SUNY Stony Brook and worked at Weill Cornell Medical College studying polyketide-associated genes in Mycobacterium tuberculosis and also studied Leishmania at the Baker Institute for Animal Health. After graduating from Cornell, Ryan completed a residency in anatomic pathology at the University of California, Davis in 2013 and boards. Ryan was then a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health and Fort Detrick, studying viral reservoirs and neuropathogenesis of HIV and SIV. He has published over 15 peer-reviewed scientific articles. Ryan is a Captain in the United States Army. As an Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA), Ryan supports the warfighter and military working dogs downrange through research. Ryan joined ANTECH in 2015 and is based in Lacey, WA outside of Joint Base Lewis McChord. Ryan has special interests in neuropathology, infectious diseases, laboratory and exotic animal pathology. In his free time, Ryan enjoys running, hiking and kayaking in the Pacific North West and spending time with his growing family and pets.

Bradley J. Turek

Bradley originally hails from the Midwest where he received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Notre Dame in 2008. He then obtained his veterinary medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2012. After graduation, he completed a small animal clinical internship at Cornell University prior to returning to Philadelphia for residency training in anatomic pathology, and earning board certification in 2016. Bradley is a current member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists. He has developed a special interest in dermatopathology. He currently resides in southern California where he enjoys distance running, hiking, and all things beach.

Andrea Vanderpool

Andrea earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Purdue University in 2004. After 11 years in small animal private practice, she returned to Purdue to complete her pathology residency and also earned a Masters of Science in Veterinary Anatomic Pathology. Andrea went on to achieve board certification in 2018. She joined the Anatomic Pathology group at ANTECH Diagnostics and works from the Indianapolis office. Andrea is a proud member of ACVP and AVMA and her special interests include oncologic pathology, neuropathology and endocrine pathology. She especially enjoys communicating with clinicians to solve challenging cases. In her free time, Andrea enjoys running, reading, and spending time with her husband, four daughters, dog Luna and cat Vinny.

Emily Walters

Bio

Emily is a native Californian and earned her DVM from University of California, Davis in 2007. Her love for pathology was solidified while earning a Master’s degree in comparative pathology from University of California, Davis in 2003 prior to veterinary school. During this time, she researched lung development and disruption of pulmonary innervation in asthmatics. Following veterinary school, Emily worked in a small animal private practice in the San Francisco Bay Area near her hometown of Walnut Creek, CA. In 2008, Emily followed her aspiration to specialize. She completed a small animal rotating internship at VCA Sacramento Veterinary Referral Center and then headed to The Ohio State University for her clinical pathology residency. She returned home and earned her board certification in 2013. Emily is a member of ACVP and ASVCP. She has extensive teaching experience, and enjoys training undergraduate, veterinary students, interns, residents, and veterinary hospital staff. She enjoys working directly with clinicians to provide personalized attention on complicated cases. Emily joined ANTECH Diagnostics in 2013 and works in the Irvine laboratory in Southern California. While away from the microscope, her latest passion is training her Golden Retriever “Kirby” to be a therapy dog. She also has two rescue pets, “Tina” turtle and “Phoebe” the cat.

Heather Wamsley

Heather is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, earning her DVM in 2000. After completing an internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York, Heather began a clinical pathology residency and PhD studies in molecular biology of infectious diseases at the University of Florida. She earned her board certification in 2004, and remained at the University of Florida as assistant professor. Heather is a member of the AVMA, ACVP and ASVCP. She is a passionate educator, and was the recipient of several teaching awards recognizing her abilities. She has been active in continuing education at conferences and online since 2004. Heather joined ANTECH in 2014, working from an office housed within a multispecialty hospital and ANTECH regional laboratory in Tampa, FL, where she resides with her pets.
