West Nile Virus is a viral
infection spread by mosquitoes that causes encephalitis in birds, horses, and
people. Dogs and cats seem to be resistant to the effects of the infection;
although they can become infected, they do not seem to become ill. There has
been one possible case of encephalitis caused by the virus in a cat and no
reported cases of dogs becoming sick.
Antech Diagnostics now offers several tests to detect West
Nile Virus for small animals, equines and avians. For testing information, please
ask your Veterinarian to contact a Client Services Representative.
