  S85530 Testosterone Panel (4 samples)
(Cryptorchids/Granulosa Cell Tumors)
  Specimen 1 ml serum for pre and three post HCG samples
  Method RIA
  Schedule 2–4 days
  Special Drawing
  Instructions
Draw Pre, administer 6,000 IU HCG IV, and then draw a 20-minute post, 1-hour post, and 2-hour post
  Comments
  Cryptorchids Testosterone levels for castrated males (geldings) range from 0 to 40 pg/ml. Cryptorchids range from 100 to 500 pg/ml. Stallions range from 200 to 700 pg/ml. Occasional monorchids may have borderline values ranging between 40 to 100 pg/ml. Provocative HCG stimulation testing is warranted in these cases to verify the presence of testosterone producing testicular tissue.
  Granulosa cell tumor The normal mare shows no significant change in baseline and post testosterone and estradiol levels. A progesterone assay is also suggested to assess possible existing luteal tissue.
  * S17505 Vitamin E/Selenium Panel
  Specimen 2 ml serum and 2 ml of EDTA or heparinized plasma
  Method HPLC; Atomic absorption
  Schedule 10–14 days
