  Comments Giardia is best seen on fresh smears or with Zinc sulfate centrifugal flotation. The ELISA test may be more sensitive.

  Method Modified Stoll's technique

  Comments The fecal egg count measures the number of Strongyle spp. ova per gram of feces. Results are reported as eggs per gram (EPG) of feces.

  Schedule 2–4 days
  Comments Concentration technique used to collect certain parasites in larval stages or as ova; most often used to detect larvae or respiratory nematodes.

Parasites: Place parasites in 70% ethanol, isopropanol or 10% buffered formalin. Indicate on label the type of preservative.

Slides: Cover specimen with coverslip and seal with clear nail polish. Cellophane tape should only be used for pinworm identification.
