Also See Equine Reproductive Panels for additional pathology panels. INCLUDE LOCATION, DESCRIPTION, SIGNALMENT and HISTORY on the Equine Pathology Requisition Form 7 for any of the following tests.

  Code Test Description
* Indicates send out test
  CYTO Cytology
  Specimen Air-dried slides from swab preps
  Schedule 1–2 days
  FBX Endometrial Biopsy (Histology)
  Specimen Tissue in 10% formalin
  Schedule 2–4 days
  Comments Providing reproductive, therapeutic and clinical history along with ultrasound and parity information helps our pathologists to provide accurate evaluation of the endometrial biopsy and offer a more detailed prognosis with respect to future reproductive performance.
  FBEQX Endometrial Biopsy plus VGE Stain
  Tests Endometrial Biopsy plus vanGieson-elastin stain
(includes routine H/E and elastin stains)
  Specimen Tissue in 10% formalin
  Schedule 2–4 days
  Comments The elastin (VGE) stain is used to identify endometrial vascular degeneration characterized by elastosis, fibrosis, and fibroelastosis of the vessel wall. These changes increase in severity with parity and lead to decreased endometrial perfusion, decreased uterine clearance, persistent edema, lymphagiectasis, and reduced fertility.
  FBX Histopathology, written report 1 Routine Tissue, Surgical or Necropsy
  Specimen Tissue in 10% formalin
  Schedule 2–5 days
  DERM Dermatopathology Consultation
  Tests Histopathology on multiple skin samples. Dermatopathology interpretation and clinical suggestions by dermatologist. Include pertinent clinical history along with herd and vaccination health status.
  Specimen Tissue in 10% formalin
  Schedule 4–7 days

  Specimen 2 or more slides and LT
  Schedule 1–2 days
  Comments Provide current hematologic data or a LT with all bone marrow submissions. If submitting a LT, also request a CBC (T330).
  CSF CSF Analysis with Cytology
  Tests WBC
RBC
Glucose
CSF Microprotein

  Specimen 2 ml fluid in LT and air-dried slides
  Schedule 1–2 days
  RECUT Recut/Duplicate Histopathology Slide Preparation
  Specimen Paraffin block for sectioning and staining if not initially performed in our laboratory
  Schedule 4–7 days
  Comments Duplicate slides are available from any histopathology case.
  * S17502 Polysacchride Storage Disease
  Specimen Muscle biopsy placed on tongue depressors in formalin.
  Comments Polysaccharide storage myopathy is a neuromuscular disorder in equine patients characterized by the accumulation of glycogen-like polysaccharide inclusions in skeletal muscle fibers. The majority of these patients present with a history of recurrent exertional rhabdomyolysis. The pathologic criteria for diagnosis is currently controversial. The current standard for diagnostic inclusion is the presence of periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) positive staining and amylase resistant inclusions within muscle fibers.
