Decrease with DIC, bone marrow suppression, lupus, severe hemorrhage or IMT.
  Comments 1) Platelet count may be falsely decreased by any method if sample is not mixed properly at time of draw to ensure clotting does not take place, or if platelet activation has occurred. Best drawn into LT vaccutainer.

2) Hemorrhage may occur at platelet counts less than 30,000/µL.

Allow vacuum of citrate tubes to deliver correct amount of whole blood, centrifuge, separate and place the citrated plasma in a tube with no anticoagulants or preservatives and cool. Please mark the tube as citrated plasma on the label.
