Lab Tip

ALERT: Department of Transportation (DOT) and OSHA Violations for Specimen Shipments
  • Syringes (with or without needles) will no longer be accepted by Antech for any laboratory testing.
  • Only DOT and OSHA approved biopsy containers can be used. Please obtain these from your Antech distributor.
Sample Requirement for Parathyroid Hormone (PTH) Testing
  • We have previously requested that specimens for ionized calcium and PTH combination testing be sent in a spun and frozen SST. However, because frozen SST have been prone to breakage in transit, the following recommendation is made:

Submit 2 samples for the ionized calcium/PTH combo test:
    1. Decant one tube of serum into a plastic tube and freeze; send to lab on frozen cold packs.
    2. Collect another tube of serum in SST, but do not freeze; send to lab on cold packs. This sample will be used for ionized calcium measurement; the serum must not come into contact with air.
